Project 1:
Famous Architect's Building
Materials Application: Architectural and Structural
For this project, students are required to choose a building that fulfills the requirements of 2 structural materials and 5 architectural materials for a thorough analysis of the building structure and finishing. As for me, I decided to do my research on the National Library of Singapore by Ken Yeang.
Final Outcome
Reflection
Through this assignment, I learnt how to identify the various materials used in a building as an architectural or structural characteristic based on their functions and applications in the specific structure. Aside from that, I was able to have a deeper understanding of the reasoning for the materials used in relation to the personalities, characteristics, and influences of the building.
Project 2:
Construction Detailing of Building Elements
This project requires students to work in groups while demonstrating their knowledge of the building construction process through actual drawings and building elements. We had to pick between our studio module's project 2 and architectural folly among ourselves while developing the technicalities of the construction process of a building.
Final Outcome
Reflection
I was able to gain a better understanding of the construction process and the technical components of a structure of this project. Aside from that, I was able to use my technical drawing skills from the previous semester to construction drawings, such as using different line weights, symbols, and annotations to convey important information about our projects.
